Populated or crowded?
Things are positively populated, voluntary and constructive wishes, by decision of its constituent elements (nobody populates a territory thinking that they will never live there). But there are invasive, intrusive and unwanted entities that can plague and move in to appropriate people and destroy the initial population and finally destroy it if same.
Similarly, if your thoughts are full of positive elements have a happy and productive life, if they are riddled with negative elements probably have some degree of depression, anxiety or low self-esteem.
Intrusive negative thoughts are a plague that destroys your happiness, not only for the fact of having them and that make you interpret the life of a grey and hopeless way, but because being all forms of thought associated with an emotion thought negative triggers automatic, immediate and involuntary way unpleasant sensations expressed organically as tachycardia, pallor, sweating, nausea (neuro-endocrine manifestations) and answers complex as fear, panic, sadness , hopelessness, despair, suicidal ideas (suicide), etc.
It is thus that the depression, low self-esteem generalized anxiety disorders (the maximum grade is the panic Crisis) are caused by distorted thoughts and sometimes difficult to control. Professional, economic, sexual, effective outcomes (in other words, everything which qualifies us for successful) do not prevent depression, give satisfaction, but do not eliminate the depression. There are very successful people depressed… These people have cognitive disorders affecting it.
Happiness is our choice, is not easy, but can be done it less slippery if refers to the mechanism by which we undermine it, we confront it and sabotage.
The physiological responses and (negative and unpleasant) emotional manifestations of depression are such that it could be considered that the absence of depression is happiness.
For his part, happiness, except be euphoria (which can be pathological), does not have as many manifestations such as depression. I mean covering many areas of the neuroendocrine system and brain.
Negative thoughts and abnormal attitudes
Not only negative thought is associated with an immediate negative and destructive emotion but it also exaggerates the problem (if it exists) because usually this type of thinking is distorted (cognitive distortion) and out of reality . It’s almost as if these thoughts had its own life and frankly were crazy and out of their mind.
The downside of these thoughts is appear untimely way and according to its frequency will see a grade less than or greater than personal dysfunction, especially depression. The good news is that it is relatively easy to control and eliminate them. Negative thoughts grow and spread in such a way that they completely dominate reality, clear and rational thinking.
At this point I would like to say that we are talking about Psychiatry and psychology real, therapeutic medically valid and formal, of a school called cognitive restructuring therapy or restructuring of thinking (CRT). Based on academic knowledge valid mental health and modified to meet the here and now (as opposed to the psychoanalytic school which goes and comes from childhood to the present year) intends to modify behaviors quickly through the identifying, understanding and the Elimination of distorted negative thoughts.
The idea is to promote positive thinking, eliminate the negatives and even stop the thoughts of any kind to neutralize the emotions at any given time (meditation). These three schemes is based on the CRT.
The most important conclusion is that depression is not an emotional or structural brain disorder, is the emotional consequence of thoughts that are distorted in a person who is not able to control them. The good thing of this therapy is that you can make your own with the help of a book (feel good – Feeling Good – of the Dr David Burns) as a guide (mild depression, most of the cases) and with the assistance of specialists and medication in cases of moderate to severe depression. In any case, adding the TRC to traditional and drug therapy improvement rates, cure and control of relapses have been much better.
Dysfunctional attitudes, silent assumptions: once one learns to identify, control, and eliminate thoughts distorted (feeling good) there are some slightly more profound and subtle residue that can cause depression, anxiety, attacks to the self-esteem… controlling these wastes is one further step (improve or be cured, not just feel good) because that implies a deeper knowledge about the cause of the depression. These small demons lurking in the subconscious are called silent assumptions and are the cause of the problem in almost all cases of depression and its appearance can lead to vulnerability, to be susceptible to a new depressive episode.
The silent or silent assumptions: using elements that define your personal value, the elements on which you founded your self-esteem, remember that there is no depression in a strong and healthy self-esteem. To determine it there is a based on a scale known as simple method scale of dysfunctional attitudes which includes elements (personal value systems) whose alteration is recognized as a cause of low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety: approval Love, achievements, perfectionism, merits, omnipotence and autonomy.
Self-esteem
In the depression self-esteem is invariably impaired (4 D’s): Defeated, defective, Deserted and Deprived. In the presence of a solid self-esteem depression cannot be installed.
You have healthy self-esteem when he feels maximum self-esteem regardless of whether it is successful or not at some point in life. Self esteem is healthy even in the face of adversity, the self confidence remains intact even in time of crisis
Negative emotional reactions, product of cognitive distortions, are only able to exert its effect on low self-esteem which is only possible if there is a mental distortion. Vicious circle!
Your value as a person and your self-esteem are not obtained through achievements and successes (does not serve all your talents, sexy, fame, fortune, love, friendship, approval… If the distortion of your thoughts make you a person emotionally sad), they give you satisfaction but not happiness. Just the way do you think gives you happiness, only a healthy self-esteem gives you happiness. And to assess properly you must control the distorted thoughts that depress you and finally end with the value that you attribute as a person.
Distortion mental more often found when one feels little thing is thought all or nothing, the tendency to excessive perfectionism with self-criticism morbid and destructive. At a minimum failure the individual is incapable of seeing the positive side of the event, denies it, eliminate it and everything becomes extremely negative without intermediate gradations.
YOU FEEL THE WAY YOU THINK!
- Automatic negative thinking
- Negative emotional response
- Unpleasant physiological manifestations
- Inappropriate or Avoidant behavior
- Guilt.
Do you think this sequence known?
According to Dr. David Burns and other authors there are 10 types of distorted thinking (cognitive distortions) explaining the basis of all depressions:
- All or nothing thinking (dichotomous thinking): see things in extremes, black or white, so if you fail your expectations perfectly you see yourself as a failure.
- Overgeneralization: you see a single negative event like a never-ending pattern of defeats
- Mental filter (selective abstraction): is the tendency to select negative thoughts, ignoring the positive and neutral to make whole situation a negative event.
- Disqualification of the positive: is the trend of repetitive negative make positive and neutral events. The resulting excitement is depressive, negative and painful. This is the most harmful form of distorted thinking, create something good from bad.
- Hasty Conclusions: arbitrarily discard positive experiences. In this way you can nurture your negative emotions, painful but unjustified.
- Magnification and minimization: defects magnification and minimization of the virtues.
- Emotional reasoning: use your negative emotional responses as sufficient evidence to draw conclusions, ignoring the fact that a negative and distorted thinking is the source of the error.
- Statements of obligation: you try to motivate imposing yourself orders or tasks that you must or you should do; Paradoxically the imposition exacerbates the apathy and lack of motivation. When you feel that you can not fulfill them greater frustration incapacity occurs.
- Labeling and misrepresentation: creation of a negative self-image based on mistakes and description of negative events with self-injurious and overloaded language.
- Customization: assumes the guilt of a negative event even though there is no guilt or basis justifying it.
Will to change: inventory
The loss of the depression will be measured with these 5 questions. The score for each answer goes from 0 to 4, from not having any desire or intention to do so (0), little will (1), some of will (2), strong will (3) to be extremely determined to do so (4).
- Try new ways to relate to other people.
- Start an activity that I have avoided or set aside.
- Design a plan to solve the problems of my life.
- Deal with a problem that I’ve been avoiding.
- Face my fears even when generate me much anxiety.
Resistance to face depression is due to not being able to accept things that we do not like ourselves and not be willing to make the efforts needed to deal with our problems.
Shyness and social anxiety
Shyness is the tendency to withdraw in situations of exposure or interpersonal contact
Social anxiety is the tendency to suffer distress from exposure to audiences or groups of persons who may watch them or judge them.
Both may be present in the same individual, but it is not unusual that a very shy person is an excellent speaker and vice versa.
Sorrow vs. depression
Sadness is natural and expected emotional response to a negative event correctly interpreted as such.
Depression is the emotional manifestation of unrealistic, illogical, distorted or simply wrong thoughts
The flood of negative thoughts is the cause of your emotional response scourging or self-destructive.
Rejection
The fear of rejection is a determinant for the personal and social isolation. It is usually a distorted thought of over generalization based on previous experiences. The rejection is relatively frequent, since we can not simply be not interesting attractions for everyone.
We will reject and we reject, you have to be realistic, but not stop trying and never to generalize a rejection so we think that it is a constant in our lives.
Anxiety: Fear of lack of tolerance for uncertainty.
Guilt: Guilt, remorse, inability to change past sel, rumination.
Shame: Rigidity, resistance to change and adaptation.
